There is nothing ordinary about Sepehr (@sepehr-a): he hails from the Bay Area of San Fran, is based in New York City but has Iranian heritage and takes great pleasure in pulling apart everything you think you know about dance music. His maverick approach results in versatile and genre-defiant sounds that collide EBM, drum & bass, techno, electro, acid and plenty more on some of the finest labels out there. He runs his own Shaytoon Records which is focussed on the Middle Eastern underground, and in May lands on our own Dekmanel Records with Genesis Domain, a varied EP full of intriguing sounds.

The same could be said of his mix for us this week. It's a deep dive into his eclectic and eccentric musical mind that spans several sounds and scenes. Although united by body-moving rhythms, there is everything from club to techno to broken beat and plenty more besides. Each track is packed with detail and surrealist sounds that will keep your head as busy as your heels.

By anyone's standards, KI/KI has had a meteoric rise in the techno scene. She started DJing at queer party Spielraum in Amsterdam in 2018, and by now she's one of Europe's most-talked about techno DJs. She blends modern strands of the genre with trance and particularly acid in a way that feels all her own, veering away from the sugar highs of other DJs or the clobbering kick drums of so much fast techno. Her style is aerodynamic and sleek, not bludgeoning.

In addition to her DJ career, KI/KI runs the label slash, which has put out music from the likes of Alpha Tracks, peachlyfe and Newa, artists who share her canny blend of techno aesthetics and sneaky pop sensibilities. She loves acid too, as shown by her 5HRS OF ACID concept, and the decades-old style has become a key part of her style and appeal, as you'll hear on her RA Podcast. It's a barreling hour-and-a-half through modern techno with trap and dubstep accents, breathless but perfectly-paced.

Detroit's dancefloor demolitionist is back with a brand new single and cassette release, "I'm the Drug", which comes on cassette format and also contains the new song "Lows" and a new version of "Hands of Stone" along with three remixes of "I'm the Drug" on the b-side. Compared to previous Comfort Cure releases, these new tracks focus on a more synth-pop and dance floor oriented sound. The three remixes on the B-side consist of a relentless EBM remix by NYC's Nuxx Vomica, a hard hitting club remix from Kansas City's Moon 17, and a skeletal minimal synth rework by Atlanta's Anticipation.

This work marks a welcome return for Torwellen after four years away. Before that, he established himself with a dark, dense and introspective sound and headlined major events around the world, from Nature One and Mayday to venues in Buenos Aires, Berlin and everywhere in between. He also ran his own events and founded the e-learning platform SINEE while evolving his meticulous style.

Inspired by his enduring work with modular synths, the new album was made on a refined modular system, processed into a signature sample pack and arranged in Ableton. The tracks were then mixed in analogue to create an organic, coherent sound aesthetic, meaning that '10 000 Black Seeds' is more than club-ready music; it is a document of Torwellen's own artistic development.

The title cut ‘10 000 Black Seeds’ opens up with drums so heavy they will rattle walls. Glitchy claps peel off the groove, and the atmosphere is brilliantly dark and moody. 'World(t)error' is just as big and powerful with rolling percussion and gritty warehouse vibes, until 'March Of The Transients' picks up the pace with quicker, banging drums and fizzing synths adding to the texture. There is eerie suspense in 'Alone In The Womb' with its elastic bassline and tense synth pulses, 'Under The Cloak Of Anger' has frosty static electricity running through the middle of the high impact drums and 'All Those Who Wander' has more thumping kicks and mind-melting synth details racing along before 'Children Of The Twilight' and 'The Ghost Orchard Mythos' close out this stripped back but powerful techno album with two more fearsome cuts.

JakoJako (@jakojako_live) always wanted to make music and her self-confessed hyperactivity ultimately led to her getting the most joy out of playing about with machines and patching up synths. These days the Berghain resident is a celebrated live act and DJ who draws on the considerable knowledge she picked up working at Berlin's legendary synth shop SchneidersLaden, but she has also worked on several high-profile motion sensor dance projects at places like The Royal Albert Hall. Her smart sound designs and unique rhythms have landed on Leisure System, Tresor and Figure and she has a new EP coming on Mute this June.

Her mix for us this week features a sneak preview of one of the tracks from that EP as well as mixing up music from Alaric, Siege, Altinbas and many more. It's full of high-speed sounds couched loosely in techno but with moods and textures borrowed from industrial, minimal and even trance as things reach an emotional peak late on. Though she broke through as a live act, this set shows JakoJako can now speak just as freely through the decks.

Envisioning a cloud filled sky that is slowly clearing up, making a way for the first sun rays of the day, Supergloss & Omon Breaker crafted a release that plays with the image of shadow and light dancing with each other.

The two young musicians from Germany and Ukraine channelled their love for early trance music to produce an EP that is focussed on emotional melodies, danceable rhythms and just the right amount of drama. Being part of a generation in which trance and acid elements are mostly being used for high-paced productions, the duo concentrated on the roots of this genre, taking it down a notch and rather crafting an emotional journey than a race. Using their own vocals and lyrics, Supergloss & Omon Breaker found a way to express their feelings apart from electronic elements allowing a small moment of romance and seduction. Having played and field tested their productions and renowned clubs and festivals worldwide, the Duo presents their EP of a modern, personal interpretation of their musical influences of the 90s and 00s.

Earlier this year, we described Los Angeles act 1morning as one of the funkiest young producers in modern-day techno. And we stand by it. The fast-rising upstart is building a solid fan base around North America and beyond with a rugged, vintage style of swung techno and hardgroove. His all-vinyl DJ sets and pumping productions on the likes of Fixed Rhythms and Mála Ádh stand out for their distinctly old-school flavour—steamrolling hi-hats à la Robert Hood, swift choppage behind the decks and deep, deep grooves. Like many of his all-vinyl heroes, he's also a treat to watch behind the decks

The up-and-comer had a hell of a year in 2023, from playing in Japan to going on his first European tour, and his momentum shows no signs of slowing. He debuted at New York's dweller festival this year and K9 Unit, his duo with Bloodhound, recently did a night with fellow hardgroove king Regal86. It's only a matter of time until 1morning gets to a festival or a club near you so until then, enjoy his RA Podcast for now. The mix unfortunately came with some less than stellar circumstances, as the records 1morning pulled were stolen from his car, and so instead this RA Podcast became a statement of resilience and creativity—and, in his words, "an outlet for my rage."

Founded in 2022, SHDW’s Mutual Rytm label has quickly become one of techno’s most supported labels, with wide-reaching love and well-earned hype following a series of carefully curated VA offerings and solo EPs from a wealth of the scene’s best. Continuing to push the pace, with more records capturing high-quality, fresh soundscapes, April brings a new project to the mix with the launch of a new sub-label X, with techno pioneer Exos drafted to deliver the first instalment.

Hailing from Iceland, the Planet X boss is a master of crafting perfect dancefloor weaponry. Over the last twenty years, his high-octane sounds have come via vital labels like Figure and X/OZ, never failing to make an impact with both DJs and dancers. Whether dubby or hard, his techno is always authentic and channels the purity of the 90s sound, and he brings this signature sound to four fresh productions across his ‘Infrared’ EP, marking an impressive debut for both label and artist.

The title cut ‘Infrared’ opens up the package in style and showcases a track that looks set to be a go-to anthem for many in the months ahead. With searing synth lines and drilling bass, the blistering production delivers a thrilling, high-impact techno sound that will devastate the dancefloor. The well-designed ‘Kaldur Klaki’ ups the ante even more with tightly coiled loops of drums, rusty hi-hats and stuttering synth lines that canter along with a muscular feel. ‘The Bad’ is twitchy and paranoid, anxiety-riddled techno that is perfect for dark warehouses and freaky dancers before digital bonus ‘DS4BR’ lands with a more stripped-back aesthetic with dubby undercurrents and static electricity fizzing across the face of the cut.

Each of the releases on Mutual Rytm X will be available on limited edition, coloured 10” vinyl, hence the Roman numeral X, and Exos’ ‘Infrared’ EP kicks off the series on 19th April ahead of a new wave of killer releases scheduled across 2024.

The 4-Track EP reflects the turbulent ebb-and-flow found with emotional conclusion - a genesis soundtracked by raw energy and driving undercurrents. The Berlin-based DJ, Producer and Label-owner’s propensity for creating a symbiotic harmony by blending seemingly divisive elements from his genre defying repertoire, demonstrates his masterful understanding and control of the listener’s borderless, auditory journey. Exemplified by his marathon closing sets at Berghain, as well as techno arenas such as Khidi in Tbilisi (both of which he is a resident), Phase Fatale’s recent DJ performances and production endeavours reflect his fresh approach to pure techno sensibilities.

The title track sets the tone with imperative grooves, energetic vigour and intrepid attitude. Following a progression of techno propulsion in ‘Magma Driver’, infused metallic textures and trippy, headier elements add depth, whilst the body of work’s cutting edge sound design echoes spacey vivacity and purification in equal measures. Dichotomy comes forward with tracks ‘Ambivalence’ and ‘Introjection’, processed vocal samples with dub techno leanings and hints towards broken rhythms are sculpted by Payne’s focused approach, resonating a feeling of hopeful resolution akin to resurgence. These romantic sensibilities offset by cold mechanical nuances are reflected in the EP’s artwork, depicting roses against the backdrop of engine-like machinery.

Answer Code Request (@answercoderequest) has long since mastered the art of mixing up the physical the with cerebral. His broken, industrial-tinged techno drums are powerful enough to have made him a long-time Berghain resident, while his harmonic pads make a lasting impact on your mind. While releasing on the likes of Ostgut Ton, Dolly Deluxe and Monkeytown Records, he has also established his own ACR label and never fails to blur boundaries between sub-genres whenever he steps out with a new sound or set.

He pulls no punches on this week's mix which is a broad showcase of his ability to thread together many different strains of techno and beyond into a coherent whole. There's everything from transcendental and linear rollers to dubby bangers, twitchy rave anthems blissed out deep space minimalism via party starting piano house. It's fun and functional in equal measure and is the sound of a DJ very much in full flow.
Sam Coates took to techno like a diligent pupil, falling in love with the genre through labels like CLR in the late '00s. It didn't take long for the student to surpass his proverbial teachers. Almost immediately, the Manchester native was putting out pitch-perfect, functional techno records with everything intricately balanced. The requisite move to Berlin only sealed his fate as a future techno luminary, and by now, based in Kyiv, he's one of techno's most reliable, yet exciting, workhorses. Setaoc Mass records (and those on his label, SK_eleven) are minimalist but colossal, deceptively simple but not easy to pull off.

We've praised him in these pages for his "sense of economy—how to get the hardest impact out of just a few elements," and that's the idea behind his RA Podcast as well. Put together from records old and new, and intricately layered, Coates's mix is like a time-travelling wormhole connecting disparate eras from techno, and highlighting the genre's most timeless attributes: mechanistic rhythms, careful pacing, rudimentary melodies made out of the strangest sounds and, of course, the power of the bass drop. It's hard to imagine anything that sounds more capital-T techno than this mix, which is a high compliment. It's easy to hear why his records and DJ sets are only more in demand from techno heads across the geographical and generational spectrum.

Pianeti Sintetici ('synthetic planets' in Italian) is a new conceptual project by Davide Perrone (Primal Code) that draws inspiration from the factories of Magrathea, a planet in Douglas Adams' classic space opera The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, where artificial planets are manufactured on commission.

“This concept has always fascinated me, and I chose the name to frame a hypothetical future of synthetic worlds, told with sound,' Davide says. 'I like to imagine the howls of creatures inhabiting solar systems outside our own. Rarefied atmospheres, alien sequences, and unfamiliar tonal scales. So, I see Pianeti Sintetici as an open-ended design research project where I can explore these inspirations.”

Pianeti Sintetici already has three stand out releases on the legendary Hypnus records and has played a string of mind bending shows, including this mix, which is a live set from the 2023 edition of Positive Education. Hailing from Iceland, the Planet X boss is a master of crafting perfect dancefloor weaponry. Whether dubby or hard, his techno is always authentic and channels the purity of the 90s sound, and he brings this signature sound to four fresh productions across his ‘Infrared’ EP, marking an impressive debut for both label and artist.

The title cut ‘Infrared’ opens up the package in style and showcases a track that looks set to be a go-to anthem for many in the months ahead. With searing synth lines and drilling bass, the blistering production delivers a thrilling, high-impact techno sound that will devastate the dancefloor. In very loose terms, James K's (@jamesk_1 music operates at the fringes of the pop world. It is experimental and industrial, packed with hooks and riddled with dreamy textures that show off her mastery of synths. She has released it in album form with Dial and Incenso, dropped EPs on AD 93 and collaborated with the likes of Drew McDowall and Stefan Maie, and always manages to imbue her adventurous arrangements with real-world emotions and anxieties. This year she will join us at Dekmantel Festival but not before serving up this week's podcast.

It's the sort of rhythmically thrilling workout that has always stood James apart: jittery drum patterns and kinetic grooves that unfold at 100 miles an hour as a barrage of caustic motifs, hypnagogic melodies and hyper-real colours all bounce about the mix. There is an ever-present sense of tension in the way things are assembled - it's as if they might implode or explode at any minute, and it all sounds fantastically futuristic.

Most underground movements in the arts can be boiled down to one key ingredient: friends doing dope shit together. Childhood BFFs Luca Medici and Delbert Perez have been doing just that with INVT (that's "innovate"), a multidisciplinary art project that spans club music and streetwear. Before exploding onto the international stage and playing to massive crowds in Ibiza and Tulum, the Miami natives built a solid community at home through electrifying DJ sets, releases and fashion. They might be globe-trotting artists now, going back-to-back with artists like Skream and playing Panorama Bar, but their raw DIY spirit stays strong.

Their tunes and live hardware shows fuse jungle, techno, East Coast club and dubstep—and lately, tech house and tribal house—with bass-heavy Latin genres like cumbia and guaracha. A reflection of Miami's diverse demographics, their genre cross-pollinations bring together skaters, dancers, artists and various subcultures. Their clothing lines are equally cross-cultural: repurposed vintage items made from screen printing and acid washing, using photos and designs that represent their home city's vibrant street culture. True to their grassroots ethos, everything's done in-house, from mixing and mastering tracks to embroidery.

The next-gen duo's ultra-rhythmic productions, characterised by deep, swinging drums and trippy textures, is delivered to the world at a rapid-fire pace, testament to Medici and Perez's seemingly insatiable hunger. Their explosive career has helped bring fresh shine to Miami talents who feature heavily in their sets, including this RA Podcast. Featuring DJ Babatr, Coffintexts and plenty of their own unreleased heaters, INVT's mix represents their friendships, community and Miami's thrilling melting pot of dance music that they're still a core part of even as they move across the globe.

Sonic Propaganda comes from the collaborative minds of Earwax and Rosati, a pair who favour dark and intense techno sounds and take inspiration from Jeff Mills and Robert Hood. In the studio, they blend analog and digital technologies into smoky warehouse atmospheres and immersive journeys that connect with listeners on an emotive level, and this full EP lands following their contribution to the third instalment of the Mutual Rytm’s Federation Of Rytm compilation series in February.

The powerful ‘Native’ opens up at high speed with tightly coiled drum loops that never let up. Sleek metal percussive sounds peel off the grooves and lock listeners into a perfect state of hypnosis. ‘Soul Pressure’ is just as absorbing, with a tense bassline keeping you on edge as the train-like drums march under incendiary hi-hat ringlets. There is plenty of perfect machine funk to ‘Terminal’, which has more rusty synth textures and chopped-up vocal fragments humanising the turbulent grooves. ‘Basic Path’ brings an extra skip to the kicks as they enter, scuffed up and flowing just above the groove, while vocal pulses and twitchy synth modulations bring the detail. ‘Body Empire’ closes the vinyl package with a deeper vibe and pensive synths that add warmth and soul to the brilliantly mechanical grooves, while digital bonus ‘Acid Riot’ closes with squelching acid lines amongst a swell of analog crunch and laser-sharp percussion.

The Brvtalist is pleased to premiere a new track from Alex Iso. "Fifth Kiss (Alpha Delta remix)" is off the new EP of the same name. Hailing from Hackney, London and now rumoured to be based in Germany, Alpha Delta is a mysterious producer known for his raw and tough sound. His debut acid techno stomper "The Moat" on Berlin's DIY label Delphic Iris Records showcased his signature punchy, club-ready style, drawing inspiration from the early 90's golden era of techno and rave.

His new remix of Alex Iso's "Fifth Kiss" rides a deeper groove and showcases a more thoughtful approach to his work, however, it is certainly no less impactful. The original prominent synth is twisted into a twilight techno retake. Classic and raw, full of clever and constant evolution, the resulting mix sounds like it could fit in any era. With a blend of old-school dubby grit and modern sizzling drumwork and flair, Alpha Delta's remix is a captivating journey through nostalgic, raw deep techno with innovative sound design.

Priori (@priori-ties) has always explored a wide range of techno from dense and introspective to more joyous, often against the backdrop of technological possibilities. He hails from Canada and has been prolific since first emerging with two full-lengths to his name on his own NAFF label. They pair dubby undercurrents with crystalline melodies and contain the sort of unresolved tensions that keep you locked in for the ride. This weekend he plays Dekmantel Naarm 2024 but first has served up this new mi for us.

Priori says this is the first dance mix he's done in a long time, adding "It's an hour and a half of fresh rhythms and rave sounds that I recorded while on tour in Australia. It features a few tracks I have been playing a lot lately and some forthcoming bits by myself and some friends." In just over 90 minutes he works through a rollercoaster of deep techno rhythms that are firmly focused on the future and flow as fluidly as water.

Last year, when we wrote that "the best UK garage is coming out of Los Angeles," we were talking about Introspekt. The US DJ, who has since moved to New York, really understands the genre—its appeal, swing and unique, bassy whomp. Listen to any of her tracks, like last year's "Forlorn," and you'll hear someone who produces like she's been making UKG all her life. This is probably partly because she comes from a dubstep background, but either way, if you're looking for new UK garage beats, Introspekt is one of the best going right now.

Her DJing also hits a distinct sweet spot, zeroing in one of the proto-dubstep, dark UK garage days when producers like El-B were making the hottest shit around. Her sound is both retro and forward-looking, as you'll hear on her RA Podcast, which balances vintage Big Apple cuts from Skream & Benga with new-school tunes from Amaliah and Surusinghe. It's not so much a throwback as it is a rejuvenation of an old sound—a new way to look at it and a new way to make it. If hindsight is 20/20, then Introspekt has perfect vision, and mixes like this are the perfect way to educate listeners, make them move and innovate a little in the process.

Sonic Propaganda comes from the collaborative minds of Earwax and Rosati, a pair who favour dark and intense techno sounds and take inspiration from Jeff Mills and Robert Hood. In the studio, they blend analog and digital technologies into smoky warehouse atmospheres and immersive journeys that connect with listeners on an emotive level, and this full EP lands following their contribution to the third instalment of the Mutual Rytm’s Federation Of Rytm compilation series in February.

The powerful ‘Native’ opens up at high speed with tightly coiled drum loops that never let up. Sleek metal percussive sounds peel off the grooves and lock listeners into a perfect state of hypnosis. ‘Soul Pressure’ is just as absorbing, with a tense bassline keeping you on edge as the train-like drums march under incendiary hi-hat ringlets. There is plenty of perfect machine funk to ‘Terminal’, which has more rusty synth textures and chopped-up vocal fragments humanising the turbulent grooves. ‘Basic Path’ brings an extra skip to the kicks as they enter, scuffed up and flowing just above the groove, while vocal pulses and twitchy synth modulations bring the detail. ‘Body Empire’ closes the vinyl package with a deeper vibe and pensive synths that add warmth and soul to the brilliantly mechanical grooves, while digital bonus ‘Acid Riot’ closes with squelching acid lines amongst a swell of analog crunch and laser-sharp percussion.

Hailing from Brittany, historical center of France’s industrial scene and in close proximity to Belgium’s infamous rave and EBM innovations, Ekors set out to deliberately blacken and burn the sophisticated sounds emanating from Paris. With releases on Amsterdam’s harsh Leyla imprint, fellow French hardcore iconoclast Umwelt’s Flesh or Die, and JoeFarr’s User Experience, the trio undoubtedly made their name in their lonely redoubt in the timberland, and Rant & Rave is honored to host their theme EP, Forest Killers, as our fifth release.

‘Woodchip’ conjures nightmares of dead bodies run through a wood chipper rather than more pastoral scenes, its distorted kicks, bone-crushing bass and blasted-apart leads chopping air and anyone unlucky enough to stand in its way. Title track ‘Forest Killers’ is murderous, the lurching breakbeat and shrapnel percussion approaching like axe falls ever closer until the horror score melody enters, then accelerating frantically as the killers close in. ‘Evil Sapp’ only seems subdued in comparison, its hammering techno pulse providing scant breathing room as industrial machinery fells nearby trees. Selfexplanatory ‘Chainsaw Requiem’ ups the discomfort as the titular tool buzzes overhead, more Texas Chainsaw Massacre than weekend warrior woodpile work. Amidst squalling leads, ricocheting percussion, fearful blasts of noise, and pounding bass and kicks, Ekors escort us out of the haunted wood, sighs of relief and evil laughs joining in chorus.

Since 2019, the Manchester based label, Moments in Time, has had many strong releases, showcasing their commitment to signing upcoming local talent, as well as those more established names. Our second release for the year is from talented Italian artist, and Noss Label Founder, Denis Dekay, and it includes a remix from label boss,
Rudosa.

Denis Dekay’s creative process was driven by a combination of sonic exploration and a focus on strong, driving rhythms. Each track has a distinct character, yet they all share a common thread of powerful basslines and grooves.

"Don't Start the Fire" is centred around the use of gated pads, which create a sense of rhythmic tension. The strong grooves and reese bass add to the track's engaging energy. "Paradox 20" takes a different approach, with a focus on a strong acid line that adds a sense of urgency and intensity to the track. The powerful bass and grooves further enhance this feeling, creating a track that is both driving and hypnotic. "Sonic Devotion" is a more atmospheric and cinematic track, with a focus on cinematic pads and a huge reese bass. This combination of elements creates a sense of depth and emotion, making it a track that is both immersive and evocative. Adding more fuel to the fire, is an up tempo remix from none other than Rudosa!

Giulia Fournier-Mercadante (GiGi FM) is a multi-disciplinary artist, DJ, resident of NTS Radio, dancer and music producer. Boldly versatile, GiGi FM’s selections have charmed bodies on dancefloors all across the world, such as Berghain, Rural Japan, Draaimolen, Fabric, De School, Primavera, The Bunker New York, and Sustain Release. Berlin label and collective Live From Earth crew does things its own way. And it works. Over the past ten years, the team has become a major force in the city, mixing a killer ear for techno and house with a sense of humour and pop sensibility that has proven irresistible to audiences and scenes around the world. That's why we chose Live From Earth for our latest cover story: its DIY attitude, humble origins and tenacious spirit are everything we love about underground dance music.

Accompanying the cover story, this RA Podcast features a recording of a live back-to-back between two of the label's chief artists, DJ Gigola and MCR-T (the latter of whom has produced some of Live From Earth's biggest hits, including horsegiirL's "My Barn My Rules"). The hour-plus recording makes for a handy microcosm of the label's sound, rushing through contemporary and vintage techno with plenty of raunchy vocal samples and hip-hop a capellas. Three years have passed since 747 last set-free works from his studio. He makes the wait well worthwhile as he emerges with two exquisitely dreamy and emotionally charged compositions in this cinched two-track record.

Opening with the A, 'Veiltail' immerses into the depths of an abyssal realm, where distorted, crunchy synths echo like sonar pulses in the darkness of an underwater cathedral. Amidst the depths, solacing hymn-like pads gently weave through the ethereal atmosphere, crafting a transcendent tale of introspection and longing.

On the B-side, 'Stairway' ascends upward to celestial realms. Guided by broken beats and a minor chord progression, the whining lead extends an ethereal arm, a beacon on the misty mountain. A break in the sky unveils beaming lights, a beckoning call to the heavens where euphoric arpeggios await; self-actualization is realized.

Thirteen EPs and several VA’s make up the story of Marcel Fengler’s IMF label, and the music continues to go from strength to strength. The latest addition to the release catalogue may be one of the strongest to date, featuring a generous number of individual inputs inside a six-track EP. Delivering the goods this time, Stuttgart-based Rove Ranger serves up two sublime stompers, with enigmatic London local The Advent serving up a thumping remix for the first half of this split release. Madrid’s Rodiaz supplies another duo of weighty originals on the second side, backed up by legendary Scotish techno titans Slam.

Rove Ranger’s ‘Workout’ opens proceedings energetically, revolving around a rolling acid bassline, swirling tonal percussion, offbeat licks, catchy vocal chops and crisp, driven hat grooves to churn out an impressive opening track before The Advent puts his own deeper, darker spin on it, pulling the original track around through a series of envelopes and creative modulations, giving it an entirely different persona. Rove Ranger closes off his side of the release with the breakbeat - laced sounds of ‘Unforgotten’, implementing endless audio width alongside pensive chords, thumping industrial grooves and hollowed-out sub-bass.

Rodiaz kicks the second half of the EP off with a bang, coming in brutal and fast on ‘Space Methods’ through an array of thudding drum grooves and rattling percussive toppers to form an unconventionally gripping beat structure - subtly accented with minimal melodic components to add endless character to this peak-time bomb. Slam follows up with an archetypally hard-hitting rendition, firing off a relentless assault of weighty kicks, rattling hat grooves and coarse industrial fills, leaving very little room for a breather throughout this tirade of hair-raising tenacity before Rodiaz distills the EP into a close with the groove focused ‘Output Methods’, playing on detuned tonal elements alongside tribal-infused percussion and eerie pads from start to finish.

Mia Koden (@miakoden) first emerged as half of Sicaria Sound but since breaking out alone has established her own musical identity. It draws on her South Sudanese heritage and music from across the African continent and beyond, not least her current surroundings in South London and the city's rich sound system culture. Often operating around the 140BPM mark, she dropped two head-turning tracks ‘Hot Take' and 'I Did’ early last year then debuted on Ilian Tape with a dark and irresistible EP that traverses multiple bass-heavy genres.

Mia does the same with her mix for us this week with, in her words, "bass, percussive, 2step, 140BPM, dubstep, dub, dub techno and breaks" all coming thick and fast at up to 150 beats per minute. It's a breathless 90-minute selection of global body music packed with lively percussion, big on low ends and not afraid to get rhythmically inventive while also dropping in the odd playful vocal from the worlds of grime and r&b. Both technically sound and tastefully assembled, it's a thrilling statement from the vital Koden.
For the next edition of Monument Waves, we are honored to welcome ASIP, which is the DJ name of Ryan Griffin, founder of the legendary A Strangely Isolated Place label and the 9128.live radio station.

Here ASIP presents a stunning mix featuring ambient, electronica, IDM, dub techno and more, where almost every track has been turned into a loop to bring to life the idea of "waves" as loops - continuous unfolding of repetitive patterns.

“Taking inspiration from the podcast series’ title, I aimed to create a mix that focused on
repetition and layers, as if staring out to sea watching blankets of waves roll in from
miles out; changing in intensity, but forever calming in their unbound repetition.”

Of all the Berlin DJs who make a living spinning strange, I'm-not-sharing-the-tracklist kind of records, Sugar Free, originally hailing from Madrid, might be the most fun. She plays bold, colourful tracks with an air of sci-fi and sleaze, somewhere between Italo, hi-NRG, electro and house. (Her Dimensions Mix last year was one of our favourites of 2023.) She's the kind of DJ who messes with your perception of genres and tempos by how she blends tracks together, and also a DJ with a rare grasp of mixing melodies and moods—just check out the first transition of this RA Podcast for a spine-tingling example.

Sugar Free doesn't speak much publicly, and you won't find a lot about her on the internet. She prefers to let her DJing speak for itself. And her RA Podcast says a lot: proggy basslines, heart-in-mouth descents into reverb-heavy breakdowns, eerie vocals and a general feel of psychedelia and '80s decadence. It's difficult to tell what era these records are from, which is part of the charm. For a bonus point, try and pick out two just-completed Sugar Free originals, some of her first productions ever after her debut track came out on Limousine Dream in 2022.

This first self-titled release is a collection of the original studio sessions that began the RUIIINS project. Each track is an experiment, leaning in various degrees into the live instruments, the ethereal or the harder core.

Ruiiins is a music project born from a shattered pile of broken experiments. RUIIINS stripped down everything in search of the new, destroying what raised us, to raise what will destroy us. Rising from Amsterdam’s shadows, Blessure is a relentless force fuelled by a disdain for apathy. It augments beyond the constraints of a label - one that aims to dismantle the ordinary and reconstruct it as a sonic purgatory.

The release finds the producer in top form, drawing influences from black metal, industrial-tinged dub and post rock, while splicing these with
his distinctive take on techno to devastating effect. "Dejected," our premeiere today, is the inaugural track on the release. It unleashes grinding walls of feedback against a relentless broken beat and its foreboding atmosphere heightened by a menacing low growl of distorted bass permeates the unease. It's a disquieting overture that sets the stage for the tumultuous journey ahead.
